Head Coach - 12 Regional/National

ERIN SUTTON

My name is Erin Sutton. I'm so excited to be back coaching at Lake Murray. I have been playing volleyball for 20 years and coaching for 13.

When I became too old to play juniors, I went straight into coaching as an assistant for a 14U team and have been coaching ever since. In my seasons coaching I have tried to take a "person first, athlete second" approach to coaching. I love to develop the girls I coach as players but get so much more satisfaction from watching them grow as young women. I am constantly looking for areas where I can improve my coaching abilities and approach.

I look forward to seeing the players I work with this year mature into great players and even better people!

Assistant Coach - 12 Regional/National

Aside from LMVC, I am the Head JV Volleyball coach at Ben Lippen School, and I am entering my Senior year at USC studying public relations. I could not be more excited to be coaching the 12U team this year!

SHAWN ACTON

I played Basketball all through school in PA. Once I graduated college in 1984 I moved to South Carolina. I had a friend that played outdoor volleyball and he showed me how to play and I have been playing ever since. I played indoor and outdoor and loved the sport.

Once my daughter became old enough to play (and wanted to), I got her into Club Volleyball. We found Lake Murray early and became Board Members back in 2008. Once my daughter graduated High School I started coaching.

I was the Varsity coach at Irmo High school for the 2016-2018 seasons. I started coaching for the Providence Athletic Club (PAC) in 2019 and became the Volleyball Director for the 2020 season, taking the Varsity team to win the NACA Division 4 National title in 2021 and placing 3rd after moving up to Division 3 in 2022 and had a 2nd place finish in 2023.

I love coaching volleyball and watching the players progress during the season not only in their volleyball skills but as individuals. I try to teach each of my players the love of the sport but also how to be a good teammate and competitor.

Assistant Coach - 16 Elite

CLAIRE DAMON

I am originally from Sycamore, IL where my introduction to the sport began. Born into a family of volleyball playing parents, my exposure to the activities of the court and importance of teamwork, started at a very early age. My mother played volleyball for Illinois Wesleyan, while my father participated in a club volleyball program at Northern Illinois University. I began participating in camps at the age of 8 and played all 6 years with my school team as a setter. During the off-season, I played club volleyball for 2 seasons with Sky High Volleyball Club and 3 seasons with Club Fusion as a libero/defensive specialist/setter.

In 2002, an athletic scholarship brought me to South Carolina where I played 4 years at Lander University. I am proud to now call the Columbia area home and am happy to be a part of the LMVC family for the eighth year. I continue to play both indoor and outdoor volleyball, and look forward to “passing” on my love of the game. I am excited to be coaching for the 16U team this year!

I started coaching in 2002 with Palos Verdes Volleyball Club for 4 years, Triumph volleyball Club for 3 years. I was also the JV coach and Varsity Assistant for Morningside High School (boys and girls).

I moved to South Carolina in 2013 and began with Lake Murray in 2014. I had to take a few years off from coaching due to family schedules and work commitments, I am so excited to be back coaching with Lake Murray. Coaching to me is so much more than teaching these athletes how to play the game of volleyball but helping them to grow into amazing young adults on and off the court. Volleyball has been such a huge part of my life; I am so thankful to be able to share my love and passion for the game through coaching. Outside of coaching and volleyball, I spend my weekends and weeknights at the baseball field.
